www.thecure.com. The Cure (lead singer Robert Smith pictured) are romantic goth, eighties, melancholic pop. And hugely successful. He has a perky melancholic dance of a voice, Love Cats, there is so much that The Cure have created that is inspirational. My favorite album Wish contains some of the sweetest, saddest, depressingly happiest sounds.

The Cure followed up Wish with Bloodflowers, which was of a similar vein but richer and, in my opinion, an attempt to re-create the excellent atmosphere of Wish which fails.
Most goths like The Cure. The Cure and Sisters of Mercy probably represent the (popular) male side of goth music, if you can include The Cure's older stuff, which was much more punky.
