Hunters in nature, Big Cats, etc, are not as violent as Humans assume. The whole ritual that animals go through before fighting results in minimal damage to one another, and in 99% of conflicts, one animal will give in, the pre-fight rituals showing them that their opponent is stronger.
Let's not bounce around the bush on this issue, Humans are overly violent because they are insecure and pathetic. Most dominant species, predators, are physically powerful, and can kill with their jaws or natural weapons. Human beings have no natural weapons, and are therefore insecure.
Also, most predatory species learn restraint. Due to their strength, power and speed they know full well they can kill each other if they strike first... but they don't. There is no point... and this is the lesson that Humans fail to learn.
Humans have no natural weapons so resort to building them, creating combat weapons for close combat, medium range and planetary range. Ranged weapons and killing by proxy take away the immediate cause and effect of violence, so Humans continue to fail to learn the matter of retraint in any instinctive way. Rather then spending their lives not worrying over violence and restraining, they spend it like typical immature and insecure people, trying to show off their violence, trying to devise better ways of doing this. As a result most people are unhappy.
The most physically restrained types of Human tend to be the Nerd, Geek, Furry and Goth classes, these are the ones who spend most time sitting still and therefore absorbing fluff and becoming more enlightened.
